This is a 2-day course. You have the option of doing Day 1, Day 2 or both days.

Day 1: 10th April, 2025.
Paint & Sanding Technology
9am start

Intro to paint technology. Solvent and water based, 1K and 2K systems. OEM & aftermarket (bodyshop) and SMART repairs. Paint thickness. Straight colour, metallic and pearls.

Painting process defects explained. Orange peel, dry paint, sinkage, runs, blisters, silicone “fisheyes", colour match.

Hardness (density) of clear coats. Medium (MS), High (HS), Ultra-High solid (UHS) clears. Painting application errors and how that effects the properties of hardness.

Heavy defects explained. Etching, bird lime, swirls, scratches, stone chips. When to sand and when to polish.

Sanding tools, materials and techniques explained. Block and hand sanding. De-nibbing tools and slicing tools. Material types and grades of sanding media. Machine sanding tools and orbit choices. Dry, damp and wet sanding methods.

Paint gauge tools. Having the correct equipment to achieve RHpoint measurements, PTG readings explained. Delfesko gauge for perfect, repeatable readings.

Hands-on. Interaction with pupils using various methods and tools on a pre-selected vehicle and training panels.

Wrap up with Q&A.

The day will end at 5PM.

Day 2: 11th April, 2025.
Machine Polishing Technology
9am start

Machine tool focus. Rotary & Dual Action (free spinning) and Dual Action (gear driven). Machine tool sizes, (large, medium and mini polishers). Machine orbit sizes, the physics and how it effects the rate of correction and finishes. Spindle speed vs. contact size vs. pressure.

Polishing Pads. Material types and sizes explained. Which construction suits a specific machine action. Which pad material type is best depending on defect type and hardness of paint.

Diminishing compounds explained. Cut levels. All-In-One products. What type of compound suits what pad type. MS/HS/UHS paint types and what compound to use. Finishing, refining and ultra refining explained.

Heavy paint defects removal. Machine pad and compound choice simplified. When to sand and when to machine polish.

Paint gauge tools. Having the correct equipment to achieve RHpoint measurements, PTG readings explained. Delfesko gauge for perfect, repeatable readings.

Wipe down inspection. Water based and solvent based chemicals. Correct methods and importance of lighting.

Microfibre cloths. Material blends and construction. Best uses and towel care.

Hands-on. Interaction with pupils using various methods and tools. A pre-selected vehicle and test panels will be used.

Wrap up with Q&A.

The day will end at 5PM.

Note: Kelly recommends attending both days to get the full experience and understanding of what is being taught.

Refreshments will be supplied. Video and photos will be taken on the day for Social Media, you'll also have access to these for your own use.
